Pavol Jozef Šafárik University was established in 1959 as the second classical University in Slovakia. The current structure of P. J. Šafárik University includes four faculties – Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Law and Faculty of Public Administration. At our University more than 5 700 students are studying. At the University 1250 staff members (500 teachers and 95 research staff) are working.
The University provides education in three main cycles - bachelor’s, master’s, doctor´s and PhD. studies in different fields. The process of education is provided in both, Slovak and English language. Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice provides higher education based on the newest scientific findings in a wide international context. The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1948 as a branch of the Faculty of Medicine of the Slovak University, later called Comenius University in Bratislava. Then in 1959, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Philosophy merged, which led to the foundation of a new university in Eastern Slovakia, called Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Kosice.
The Faculty is growing since than having an established reputation both locally and internationally.
The modern complex of the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital are located in the same place creating an integrated system. Theoretical departments are providing solid academic background for our students, while the clinical aspects are emphasized in the modern University Hospital.
